15 SLLI TROOPS SHIFTS A TAMIL FAMILY FROM THE SHANTY HOUSE TO A NEWLY CONSTRUCTED HOUSE

Under the conceptual guidance of the Commander, Security Forces (East), Major General Prasanna Gunaratne RSP ndu psc IG and General Officer Commanding, 22 Infantry Division, Major General GMN Perera RWP RSP USP ndc, 15th Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry constructed a new house on the request made Mrs. J Sripathy, the Divisional Secretary of the Thambalagamuwa Divisional Secretariat to a needy family. The lucky recipient of the house is Mr Chitra Velayudham Lingeshwaram Sharma who has been living in a makeshift house with his disabled daughter and the family at Thambalagamuwa.

The housewarming was done on 03rd November 2023 at a charming ceremony attended by Major General Prasanna Gunaratne RSP ndu psc IG, the Commander, Security Forces (East). General Officer Commanding - 22 Infantry Division, Brigade Commander - 223 Infantry Brigade, Mr.Chaminda Hettiarachchi - District Secretary Trincomalee, and Divisional Secretary – Thamblagamuwa were among the invitees. The Commander, Security Forces (East) together with the younger daughter of beneficiary family planted sapling to mark this magnificent day.

Security Forces Commander handed over the keys of the house in mid of the multi-religious ceremony attended by priests of all religions. Three cultural dances performed by the students of Mollipothana Sinhala school, Barathipuram Tamil School, and Thambalagamuwa Higma Muslim school. Appreciating the hard work and commitment of the Commanding Officer and all ranks of 15 SLLI, Mrs. J Sripathy, Divisional Secretary of the Thambalagamuwa Divisional Secretariat, expressed her gratitude to the entire Army. The ceremony concluded after a tea attended by all.

The project was a great success, with financial and material support received from Thambalagamuwa divisional Secretariat. The total expenditure for this house was 1.35 million. Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel NC Marasinghe, and Troops of 15th Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry carried out the construction work under the able leadership of the Commanding Officer.
