232 Infantry Brigade

The 14 Infantry Brigade was initially established on 1 May 1995 at the Valachchenai Paper Mill. However, its operations were subsequently discontinued on 10 October 1996, and it was re-designated as the 1 Infantry Brigade.

On 23 July 1997, the 1 Infantry Brigade was renamed the 232 Infantry Brigade and was later stationed in the Kalkudah area on 10 May 2004. Unfortunately, on 24 December 2004, the brigade’s headquarters was severely impacted by the T sunami disaster, resulting in its complete destruction. During this catastrophic event, the Brigade Commander, Colonel WMJ Gunaratne psc tragically lost his life. Following this incident, the brigade was relocated to the Siththandi area.

Subsequent to the Eastern Humanitarian Operation, on 3 August 2007, the headquarters of the 232 Infantry Brigade was repositioned to the Illuppadichchenai Area. Later, on 8 September 2007, it underwent another relocation to its present site in Tharavikulam.
