The Mechanized Infantry Regiment conducted the Field Firing on 27th and 28th October 2021 at Kalpitiya Air Force Field Firing Range after 7 years. The Mechanized Infantry Regiment is the youngest fighting Regiment in the Sri Lanka Army and is equipped with sophisticated military equipment, including Infantry Combat Vehicles and Armoured Personnel Carriers, to conduct operations in specific forms which cannot be accomplished by other forms of forces.

Major KJAT Buddhika MIR was appreciated by Colonel of the Regiment, Major General Priyanka Fernando RWP USP on 03 September 2021 at the Regimental Centre for the great achievement as the First Order of Merit of Junior Command Course No 21, which was held from 03 May 2021 to 20 August 2021, at the Officers Career Development Centre - Buttala. Centre Commandant, Brigadier W M S C K Wanasinghe RSP USP and Commander - Mechanized Infantry Brigade, Brigadier B P G K Balasooriya RSP psc were present at the occasion.

Brigadier B P G K Balasooriya RSP psc assumed duties as the 12 Commander Mechanized Infantry Brigade on 12 August 2021 of the Headquarter Mechanized Infantry Brigade.
The Commander Mechanized infantry Brigade was warmly received upon his arrival by Lieutenant Colonel R M H B Rathnayaka RSP USP psc CO 3 MIR, Lieutenant Colonel R A S R Ranasinghe USP psc CO 4 MIR, Lieutenant Colonel E R A Silva CO 5(V) MIR and the brigade staff.
Adhering to the health guidelines, the formal military ceremony was commenced soon after the guard turnout at the entrance. Afterwards, he planted a sapling before assuming duties.
Later, he placed his signature for a formal document for assuming duties amidst simply arranged religious observances to signify the acceptance of the new office and addressed the Officers and Other Ranks of the Brigade and conveyed his views and guidance.
