The Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment (SLLI) constructed one more house for a deserving SLLI soldier and formally warmed it during a ceremony at Kalutara on 26 May 2023. The project as a suggestion made by Major General C.D Weerasuriya RWP RSP ndu, Chief of Staff and Colonel of the Regiment of Sri Lanka Light infantry Regiment entrusted the responsibility of constructing a house for a homeless soldier at each unit level under three phases. The new house, built at Kalutara, Bandaragama was accordingly received by a deserving Non-Commissioned Officer of the 8 SLLI Regiment who has been serving the Army for more than 17 years. He is married and blessed with two kids. Troops of the 8 SLLI on the directions of the Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel I.A.L Ileperuma RWP RSP USP provided their manpower, engineering and technical skills for construction of the new house.

The fact that the Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regimental Drill Team was able to win the championship of the 2022 Army Inter-Regiment Drill Tournament while keeping the same victory mark on the 2019 Inter-Regimental Drill Field is a unique achievement for the Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment, which has an ancient history.

The visit has been mainly set with the objectives of receiving updates on operational, administrative, training and other perspectives of Battalions and also to aware on essential needs of officers and soldiers serving in Battalions. Colonel of the Regiment was received by Commanding Officers on the arrival to their Battalion Headquarters premises with honor.

On 28 October 2022, the Sri Lankan Light Infantry known as the oldest Regiment of the Sri Lanka Army proudly and jubilantly celebrated 141st Anniversary. In accordance with Army Special Order, the first Battalion of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry was established on 30 June 1989 in the Army Cantonment, Panagoda and the Regimental Headquarters was established in the same premises with the motto of “Serve” in unprecedented determination of protecting territorial integrity and sovereignty of the motherland.
