  • Army Converts Centre to a Field Hospital & More Infected Positive Ones Could be Anticipated - Head NOCPCO

    "Ministry of Justice-managed two Rehabilitation Centres for Drug Prevention, Treatment and Rehabilitation, managed by Ministry of Justice in Kandakadu and Senapura areas in the Polonnaruwa district have a total of 1150 detainees, inclusive of employees of different state agencies. After detection of a COVID-19 positive detainee from the Welikada Prisons on Tuesday (7) who had returned from Kandakadu Rehabilitation Centre, all prison detainees and prison staff were subjected to about 700 PCR tests, but all of them were confirmed negative to the virus. On the same day (7), all individuals inside that Kandakadu Rehabilitation Centre underwent PCR tests and found 57 of those individuals, subjected to PCR tests were confirmed positive to the virus. Of them, was one female who is serving the Centre as an instructor, but currently on leave in Marawila area. Soon after she was diagnosed positive, her parents, family members and her associates have now been referred to PCR tests, kept in quarantine by the Army and are awaiting results of those reports, "Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said.

    The Flight No QR 668 from Doha with an embassy official, together with family members (4) passengers arrived in Sri Lanka and The Flight No UL 202 from Bahrain with 294 passengers and UL 102 from Maldives with 120 passengers will arrive in Sri Lanka this morning (05). All of them will be sent to Quarantine Centres (QCs), managed by tri services for necessary quarantine process, a statement issued this morning (05) by the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) stated.

    To be in line with the motto, ‘Nothing is Impossible,’ Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva reminded that Sri Lanka being a small nation maintains the Armed Forces through the tax-payers’ money and therefore we need to protect this nation from whatever the national emergency it is faced with, not only in times of security alone as we have repeatedly proved. Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva referring to the ongoing extensive discussions on the ‘Way Forward Strategy 2020-2025’ of the Army, aimed at transforming the Army to be a professionally-competent and fully-pledged organization which can deal with any eventualities in future, said that the tri services with the blessings of HE the President would usher in a new era of development.

  • NOCPCO Head Appeals the Public to Continue Health Precautions & Guidelines

    While paying gratitude to the general public for the overwhelming support they extended towards the near successful control of spread of COVID-19 in the country, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Head, National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army appealed the general public to continue their COVID-19 preventive health practices further using face masks, keeping social distancing, hand washing, etc until further instructions are received from health authorities.
