The Army’s mobile vaccination fleet that prioritizes the vaccination of the elderly, sick, handicapped and feeble sections in society extended its service to the Wanni region on Monday (23) focusing largely on the Vavuniya District. The Commander, Security Forces-Wanni, Major General Hemantha Bandara has been closely supervising the project since the first day of the project.

One Dr Umasugi Nadarajah, an Australia-based health professional currently in Jaffna has gone on record commenting on the ongoing Army mobile vaccination project in the peninsula while extending his deep appreciation. He was among many civilians who had been quoted saying: "I really appreciate the decision to do home to home mobile vaccination programme. It's very convenient to the elderly people who may need to depend on someone to get to vaccination centres. This programme will also help prevent the infection rates as there won't be people standing in queues. It will also do a world of goodness for reconciliation between our communities as this is a friendly approach by the Army"

The Army's Mobile COVID-19 Vaccination Fleet that prioritizes the vaccination of the elderly, sick, handicapped and feeble sections in society over 60 years of age started its inoculation in the western province on Sunday (22), covering Nugegoda, Gangodawila, Rajagiriya, Panadura and Moratuwa areas after launching it from the Panagoda Army Hospital premises. The arrangment was fully supported by the Security Force HQ-West on the directions of Major General Sujeewa Senarath Yapa, Commander, Security Forces-West.

A nation-wide quarantine curfew that comes into effect at 10.00 pm this evening (20 August 2021) in order to curb further transmission of the epidemic will continue till Monday (30 August 2021) at 4.00 am, announced General Shavendra Silva, Head, National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army.
