The Army’s mobile vaccination fleet that prioritizes the vaccination of the elderly, sick, handicapped and feeble sections in society extended its service to the Wanni region on Monday (23) focusing largely on the Vavuniya District. The Commander, Security Forces-Wanni, Major General Hemantha Bandara has been closely supervising the project since the first day of the project.
The mobile vaccination fleet was first launched in Colombo on the directions of Head, National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, General Shavendra Silva before the service was expanded to other provinces including the north, hill country, etc where morbidity rates remain high.
The vaccination process is carried out to inoculate people over age of 60 years and differently able people who are living in the Wanni region. Similarly, troops of the Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps and the Security Force HQ-Wanni extended their maximum assistance to complete the programme successfully.
The vaccination programme was supervised by respective General Officers Commanding of 21, 54, 56, 62 and 65 Divisions and supported by respective Brigade Commanders and Commanding Officers.
