Jaffna Civilians, Full of Praise for the Army Mobile Vaccination Drive

One Dr Umasugi Nadarajah, an Australia-based health professional currently in Jaffna has gone on record commenting on the ongoing Army mobile vaccination project in the peninsula while extending his deep appreciation. He was among many civilians who had been quoted saying: "I really appreciate the decision to do home to home mobile vaccination programme. It's very convenient to the elderly people who may need to depend on someone to get to vaccination centres. This programme will also help prevent the infection rates as there won't be people standing in queues. It will also do a world of goodness for reconciliation between our communities as this is a friendly approach by the Army"

The mobile vaccination programme, inaugurated a few days ago from the Jaffna Teaching Hospital compound was attended by Major General Jagath Kodithuwakku, Commander Security Forces -Jaffna and District Coordinator of COVID-19 Control and Prevention in Jaffna and Dr S Sribhawan, Deputy Director of the Jaffna Teaching Hospital, together with a few state officials and senior officers. In his brief comment to the occasion, Dr Sribhawan extended his profound thanks to the Army for this initiative and urged the public to make use of this opportunity since elderly ones are more vulnerable to the virus infection.

This National Mobile Vaccination Service which is the brainchild of General Shavendra Silva, Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army was given leadership in the Jaffna peninsula by the Commander, Security Forces-Jaffna who is also the coordinator for control of the outbreak in the peninsula.

Ordinary civilians and recipients of the vaccine are full of praise to the Army for the arrangement and the mobile vaccination drive expects to cover the whole of the peninsula within a few days after vaccinating the entire elderly population in the peninsula in close collaboration with MOH offices, PHIs, Grama Niladaris (GN) and respective other agencies.
