Covering areas such as Rattota, Bandarapola, Laggala and Abangaha Divisional Secretariat areas, the Army’s mobile vaccination fleet that prioritizes the vaccination of the elderly, sick, handicapped and feeble sections in society went on providing vaccines under the supervision of the General Officer Commanding 53 Division, Major General Nishantha Manage on Tuesday (24).
On the directions of the Head, National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, General Shavendra Silva, the mobile vaccination fleet was first launched in Colombo before the service was expanded to other provinces including the north, hill country, etc where morbidity rates remain high.
The vaccination process was carried out to inoculate people over age of 60 years and differently abled people who are living in the 53 Division areas of responsibility. Similarly, troops of the Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps and the 53 Division extended their maximum assistance to complete the programme successfully.
