OPENING CEREMONY OF THE NEWLY CONSTRUCTED DAHAMPASALA BUILDING AT SEVANAPITIYA SAMA VIHARAYA

The ceremonial opening of the newly constructed Dahampasal Building at Sevanapitiya Sama Viharaya was held on 26 October 2025 with the participation of senior military officers, government officials, donors, and residents of the area.

The building, measuring 155 x 22 feet , was constructed by troops of the 9th Sri Lanka Artillery and 3 Engineer Services Regiment (ESR) as part of a community development initiative aimed at enhancing religious and educational infrastructure in the region. Upon completion, the facility was formally handed over to the temple authorities during the event.

The ceremony was graced by Major General K.B.N.P. Premaratna RSP USP nps psc, Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force and Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Artillery, who attended as the Chief Guest. The event was also honored by the presence of Major General JSBW Pallekumbura RWP RSP ndu psc, Commander, Security Forces (East) and Colonel of the Regiment, Sri Lanka National Guard.

Also in attendance were Colonel SGMNS Perera USP, Commander, 233 Infantry Brigade, Commanding Officer, 9th Sri Lanka Artillery, and senior officers and Director, Welikanda Zonal Education and Troops of 9th Sri Lanka Artillery were participated.

The Newly constructed darmasala building project was generously financial support by Mrs Sureka Gardner, whose valuable contribution and support were instrumental in the successful completion of this initiative.

This event marked another significant milestone in strengthening the civil–military relationship, reflecting the Sri Lanka Army’s continued commitment to supporting community welfare and national development through infrastructure and social upliftment projects.
