NEWLY APPOINTED GOC OF 22 INFANTRY DIVISION ASSUMED THE DUTIES

Major General WBMKGK Weerasekara WWV RWP RSP USP AUSWC psc formally assumed duties as the 34th General Officer Commanding of the 22 Infantry Division on 05 January 2026 at the Division Headquarters, Trincomalee.

Upon his arrival, the General Officer Commanding was accorded a warm welcome by the Staff Officers, followed by a Guard Turnout and a ceremonial Guard of Honour presented by the troops of the 22 Infantry Division.

Religious observances were conducted under the guidance of the MahaSangha and other clergy, invoking blessings for his new appointment. Thereafter, Major General Kanchana Weerasekara WWV RWP RSP USP AUSWC psc officially assumed office at the Division Headquarters.

Following the formal proceedings, the General Officer Commanding addressed the troops under his command, outlining his Vision, Leadership Philosophy, and Expectations for the future development and operational readiness of the Division. The day’s events concluded with an all ranks tea, during which Officers and Other Ranks conveyed their congratulations and best wishes.
