THE NEWLY APPOINTED 223 INFANTRY BIRGADE COMMANDER ASSUMED DUTIES

Colonel M T I Gunawardena RSP psc assumed duties as the 10th Brigade Commander of 223 Infantry Brigade on 17 September 2025. The ceremony commenced in the morning with religious rites, rituals, and formal military ceremonials.

The ceremony took place at Headquarters 223 Infantry Brigade premises, Colonel M T I Gunawardena RSP psc then reviewed the Guard Turnout presented by the troops of 15th Battalion the Sri Lanka Light Infantry

Following the military formalities, a brief ceremony had been arranged to invoke blessings on his new appointment at the Brigade Commander’s office. He symbolically accepted the office by signing an official document.

As part of the ceremonial activities, Colonel M T I Gunawardena RSP psc posed for a few group photographs with Commanding Officers and his staff and planted a Mango sapling. He also spared a few minutes to address the soldiers who were presented to greet him.

Later, the Brigade Commander received a briefing about the Area of Responsibility (AOR) during a staff briefing.

Commanding Officers, Officers of Brigade Headquarters and Other Rankers attended the ceremony to pay their respect to the newly appointed Brigade Commander of the 223 Infantry Brigade.
