20TH BATTALION OF THE GAJABA REGIMENT’S FACILITATION OF DRY-RATION AID AND SCHOOL BAGS DISTRIBUTION TO CIVILIANS AND CHILDREN AFFECTED BY DISASTER IMPACTS

In order to provide relief to civilians who were affected by the adverse weather conditions that impacted the island, a community welfare programme was conducted with the coordination of 22 Inf Div and Maj Gen API Fernando RWP USP (Retired). Through the financial contributions of his Cousin sister, Dr. Yamani Gunawardhana, who resides in the United States of America, along with family members, 200 dry ration packs and 100 school bags for school children were distributed to 200 selected needy families in the area. This community service programme was held on 19th January 2026 at Arfath Muslim School - Pulmoddai, located within the area of responsibility of the 20th Battalion of the Gajaba Regiment.

The programme was carried out under the supervision of the Commanding Officer of the 20th Battalion of the Gajaba Regiment, Lt Col Rohana Ekanayake RWP RSP psc. The event was attended by the Comd 221 Infantry Brigade, Brig Chandima Beligaswatta RSP, the Assistant Director (Planning) of the Kuchchaweli Divisional Secretariat, the Officer in Charge of Police – Pulmoddai and other government officials. To ensure the successful conduct of the community service programme, 04 x 25 personnel of the unit contributed their assistance.
