4th Battalion of the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment

At the time when the battle for control of the LTTE’s earth bund around Kilinochchi was going on, on 30th December 2008 Major LKIG Lokuketagoda was appointed as the Commanding Officer (officiating) of the Battalion.

After the capture of Kilinochchi the Battalion advanced in the direction of east of Killinochchi passing Iranamadu, Vaddakachchi and was later deployed at Darmapuram. Battalion's troops were part of the larger group that captured the Iranamadu Tank, the LTTE’s airstrip, the suicide cadre training school, two of their main bases and their armoury all located in Iranamadu.

At Kalmadukulam the Battalion had many confrontations with the LTTE and successfully killed a large number of its cadres The Battalion also lost (killed) 9 other rankers while 30 more were wounded.

With the LTTE attacking the 59 Division troops under the command of the 57 Division including those of this Battalion, were airlifted to Pudukuduiruppu and Mullikulam to reinforce the 59 Division. On 16thMay 2009 troops of the Battalion successfully repulsed an attack by the LTTE killing 45 of its cadres and capturing a large quantity of munitions and other equipment. The Battalion also lost (killed) one of its menders while 20 others were wounded
During the 'Humanitarian Operation' 5 officers and 117 other ranks of the Battalion made the supreme sacrifice to their motherland while 22 officers and 583 other rankers were wounded.
The Battalion on completion of the Operation positioned themselves in the Ramanathapuram on 5th March 2007 and remained till 5th February 2010.
On 30th January 2012 Major KPA Perera RSP was appointed as the Commanding Officer (officiating) of the Battalion.
On 2nd July 2012 the Battalion moved to Mankulam.
Later on, the Battalion having moved to Dombagoda was tasked with handling work related to the Ministry of Defense and Urban Development. Later the Battalion was detailed to perform VVIP security duties.
The Battalion on 25th April 2013 reported to the Air Mobile Training School at Thanthirimalee to undergo training and on completion returned to Ambepussa on 4th June 2013.
Later the Battalion moved to the Beragala Camp in Kegalle.
On 21st October 2014Lieutenant Colonel CP Wickramaratne RSP was appointed as the Commanding Officer of the Battalion.
