Adopting the concept of operating in small teams the Battalion dominated the area ahead of the existing FDL and succeeded in clearing the Mullikulam village of all LTTE activity.

On 24th September 2007 the Battalion attacked the LTTE's base on the Kalmadu - Palampiddi road. After two days fighting the Battalion captured the LTTE base with the support of troops from other Battalions. While the Battalion continued with the offensive all counter attacks launched by the enemy were successfully repulsed.
On 23rd December 2007 on LTTE's route clearing patrols and picket points between Mullikulam and Vilayathikulam. A total of 44 other rankers were wounded while it was revealed that 75 - 100 LTTE carders also were wounded.
Maintaining the momentum of the offensive the Battalion along with the other Battalions engaged in the Operation continued to overcome all resistance by the LTTE and captured the areas of Palampiddi, Madhu, Periyamadu, Vedithalathivu, Vellankulam, Tikali, Tunukkai. While the Battalion suffered losses killed and wounded it also succeeded in killing and wounding a large number of terrorists as well as destroyed a considerable number of LTTE camps.

On 2nd September 2008 the Battalion attacked LTTE’s positions in Akkrayankulam and initially held the ground but had to withdraw in the face of the LTTE's counter attack. This encounter caused the death of two officers and 39 other ranks while another 105 were wounded. 12 soldiers were reported as MIA and later their bodies were handed over through the ICRC. It was also reported that a considerable number of LTTE carders had also been killed.
Thereafter, the Battalion moved to Mallavi and rested for a short period after which the Battalion being placed under command to the 572 Brigade attacked and captured the LTTE's positions at Akkarayankulam.
On 23rd December 2008 the Battalion with the support of the 9 GR and 12 SLSR Battalions launched an attack to take control of the LTTE's Earth Bund built surrounding Kilinochchi. After a fierce fight with the LTTE which went on for a considerable period the troops succeeded in taking control of the flank west of Kilinochchi and finally entered Kilinochchi Town on 29th January 2009.
