4th Battalion of the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment

The Battalion then was moved to the FDL in Palali after which they 30th April 2000 moved to Muhamalai. While at Muhamalai a considerable number of soldiers lost their lives and others were wounded due to terrorist attacks. These losses caused a severe dearth in the number of soldiersrequired by the Battalion. The lack of sufficient number of trained soldiers was sorted out when 18 officers and a number of soldiers from 12th Battalion Sinha Regiment were sent to this Battalion as the two Battalions were amalgamated.

On being released from Muhamalai the Battalion was redeployed to Nagarkovil 10th June 2000.

The Battalion left Nagarkovil on 19th August 2000 to be part of 'Operation Rivikirana' launched on 3rd September 2000. During the operation the Battalion lost (killed) an officer and 10 other rankers while another 4 officers and 66 other rankers were wounded. On completion of the Operation the Battalion returned to Nagarkovil

The troops of the Battalion then took part in 'Operation Kinihira III' launched on 26th September 2000 aimed at capturing Chavakachcheri. The Battalion lost (killed) two other rankers while another 26 were wounded. On completion of the Operation once again the troops returned to Nagarkovil where they underwent Battalion Training.

'Operation Kinihira IX' carried out from 16th to 18th January 2001 saw the participation of the Battalions personnel in it. During the Operation, the Battalion lost (killed) an officer and 13 other rankers while another 5 officers and 36 other rankers were wounded. On completion of the Operation the Battalion was deployed to Muhamalai.

The Battalion's personnel took part in 'Operation Agnikeela I' launched in Muhamale from 25th to 27th April 2001. The Battalion lost 21 other rankers (killed) and another 5 officers and 48 men were wounded.

On 22nd May 2001 Major WKSN Weerawatta was appointed as the Commanding Officer (officiating) of the Battalion.

On 28th December 2001 the Battalion was moved to Ampan, Nagarkovil and placed under command to the 551 Brigade.

On 28th March 2002 the Battalion left the Jaffna Peninsula and was deployed in Kokkuthuduwai and Kokilai in the Welioya Sector and placed under command to the 224 Brigade.

On 19th February 2004 Major FFRM Fernando RSP psc took over duties as the Commanding Officer (officiating).

Major GWDK Jayathilake was appointed as the Commanding Officer (officiating) on 8th April 2004.
Troops were sent to Maduruoya Army Training School for Battalion training after being relieved of duties at Forward Defence Lines in Kokkuthudwai. While undergoing training at Maduruoya, on 11thJuly 2004, 19 officers and 322 other rankers with the Battalion Headquarters were deployed in Batticaloa Town under 233 Brigade to take part in an emergency operation.
These troops returned to the Maduruoya Training Centre and underwent Battalion Training from 23rd July to 8th September 2004. On completion of training the Battalion moved to Pulmudai on 22nd September 2004 and was placed under the command of the 224 Brigade. Apart from being deployed in Pulmudai they were also deployed to provide security to Yanoya, Mahasenpura, Welamkulam, Arsimalai and Jinnapuram.
The tidal waves of the Asian Tsunami that hit the area on 26th December 2004 damaged the camp at Jinnapuram. However, in the aftermath of the tsunami the soldiers were full-time engaged in various activities that brought about relief to the civilians affected by the calamity. The soldiers contributed a great deal to rebuild the Kokilai fishing village.
On 4thMay 2005, 5 officers and 90 other rankers of the Battalion left for Haiti on the UN Peace Keeping Mission.
On 22 August 2005 Major WMC Bandara was appointed as the Commanding Officer (overlooking duties) of the Battalion.
On return to the Island Major GWDK Jayathilake once again took over the command of the Battalion on 10thSeptember 2005.
On 23rd January 2007 Lieutenant Colonel DSD Welikala RSP was appointed as the Commanding Officer.
With the commencement of the 'Humanitarian Operation' the Battalion placed under command to the 57 Division launched its offensive on 3rd February 2007 from Kalmadu - Iranairuppaikulam in the Vavuniya district.
