On 10th March 1993 with the launching of 'Operation Sumana' troops of the Battalion advanced into the jungles in Toppigala and reached Tharavikulam, the planed target for the day. On the following day Napaththiwillu and Mulleiwadduwan areas were re-captured. On completion of the operation, the Battalion pitched camp in the same area.
Captured weapons and other items used by terrorists
After having handed over security duties at Toppigala to the 9th Gemunu Watch, the Battalion reported to Maduruoya to follow Advanced Battalion Training for a period of five weeks commencing 22nd April 1994. On 10th May 1994 Major MHSB Perera RSP was appointed as the Commanding Officer (officiating) of the Battalion.
On 14th June 1994 'Operation Bambarachakra' was launched in which the troops of the Battalion once again entered the jungles in Toppigala. On completion of the Operation the troops moved to Veppankulam, Vavuniya.
While stationed at Vavuniya troops of the Battalion underwent air-mobile training after which the Battalion became a part of the Air Mobile Brigade and was known to be the most favoured Battalion of the Air Mobile Brigade.
The troops of the 4th Battalion, now trained and part of the Air Mobile Brigade, after the training period troops were engaged in an air-mobile operation against an LTTE camp in Silawathurai. The A, B, C and D Companies led by Captain Mudannayake, Captain Malawige Captain TA Pakeer and Captain BAL Ratnayake respectively were airlifted from Vavuniya in MI 24 helicopter gunships. On reaching the target area and being dropped off at a pre-determined location the troops carried out an assault on the LTTE's camp in double quick time to choreographed precision, causing complete destruction of the target after which, the troops withdrew back to Vavuniya.
The General Election that was scheduled to be conducted called for a higher level in security arrangements throughout the country. Hence, the Battalion was deployed in Kinniya, Kattaparichchan, Kallar, and Kanthale on internal security duties. On completion of holding of the General Election, on 16th August 1994, troops returned to Ambepussa and were deployed in the Gampaha and Kegalle Districts tasked with preventing the occurrence of any post-election violence. After the election the Battalion moved back to Vepankulam in Vavuniya.
On 16thOctober 1994 the Battalion moved to Batticaloa to be part of 'Operation Gallant Warrior' on completion of which the Battalion moved to Kandy and thereafter once again was deployed Vakarai, Valachchenai and Pulipanchical in the Batticaloa District.
On 27thNovember 1994 the Colonel of the Regiment ceremonially unveiled the monument constructed at Ambepussa in memory of those fallen Green Jackets. On 24thDecember 1994 troops of the 'B' Company who having handed over their duties at Vakarei where travelling in a bus towards Batticaloa were hit by a land mine resulting in the death of 5 other rankers while an officer and 22 other rankers were also injured.
On 10th January 1995, the entire Battalion reported to Veppankulam Camp in Vavuniya. On 18th February 1995 the Battalion was redeployed to Pooneryn, reaching there by naval craft took over the duties of the Pooneryn Security Zone from its former occupants, the 8th Battalion of the SLSR.
