The Detachment of 'C' Company stationed at Kankesanthurei (KKS) Jetty came under an enemy attack on 22nd April 1987 where 14 other rankers were killed while 6 others were wounded. On 28th June 1987, the Battalion was relieved from the North & Eastern Provinces to follow Battalion Training at Maduru Oya. However, the training was interrupted and the Battalion was deployed in Colombo, Kalutara, Matara and Moneragala as anti-government clashes erupted after the signing of the Indo–Lanka Peace Accord.

On 10th August 1987 the 6th battalion of Sinha Regiment was formed. Troops of the 'D' company and other troops of the Battalion were released to join the newly formed Regiment. On 13th February 1988 the Battalion was deployed to Palali, KKS, Jaffna Fort, Velvetithurai, Elephant Pass and Thondamanaru.

After one year of service in these areas, The Battalion was airlifted to from Pallaly to Ratmalana and was deployed at Gampaha and Kalutara to counter the subversive activities of the JVP. On 15th August, Lieutenant Colonel HS Hapuarachchi handed over the command to Major GH Ariyarathane RWP RSP.

On 10thJanuary 1990, The Battalion underwent a Battalion Training for a duration of 10 days at Ambepussa, On completion of this training programme, an Inter-Company Sports Meet was held for the first time in the Battalion which was followed by a musical show held on the same night. On 2nd February 1990 troops the Battalion were moved to Kantale and carried out security duties at Sitharukondavil, Dehiwaththa, Seruvila and Thampalagama.

12th May 1990, with the forming of the 7th Battalion of the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment 7 officers and 140 other rankers were transferred to the new Battalion. On being released from Trincomalee, on 10th May 1990, the Battalion took over security duties in Ampara, Konduwatuwan, Pottuvil, Dheegawapi, Akkaraipattu, Malwattha, Neethai and Bakmitiyawa. On 13thJune 1990 with the commencement of what is now termed as the Eelam War II the Battalion troops destroyed terrorists' locations in the proximity of Ampara Town. In these encounters the Adjutant of the Battalion, Captain Namal Mendis and his Radio Operator were killed due to enemy fire Later on 10th October 1990 the Battalion was released from Ampara and returned to Ambepussa.

Troops engaged in 'Operation Walampuri'

The Battalion was moved to Palali, on 14thOctober, by air. Just after two days, they took part in operation 'Jayasakthi'. In this Operation, troops were able to expand the Security Line of Palali Camp up to Kankasanthurei. During this operation, the Battalion lost two Officers and 18 Other Ranks.
