Later, except for those who were present at the other rank's billet that stood closest to the police station at the time of the incident, all other personnel who were on compulsory leave were ordered to report for duty. Though moral had been badly affected they were reassured of service and their tribulations seemed to be over since they were recalled for duty. However, as troops reported to Echelon Square it was found difficult to provide them with meals since the kitchen was not permitted to be opened. Personnel from the Ceylon Corps of Military Police (CCMP) were deployed inside the camp ostensibly to have a close watch on Sinha Regiment personnel. To overcome the situation Lieutenant Colonel DW Hapuarachchi having discussed the matter with his officers made arrangements to serve a wholesome meal to all utilizing regimental resources. However, overcoming all such obstacles the performance of the Sinha troops once was of a very high standard.
Lieutenant Colonel DW Hapuarachchi who led the Battalion and rendering conscientious service faced many problems and difficulties which later forced him to leave the Army, the reason for leaving being rather ironical; the Language Act that was in force at the time. However, much doubt existed in the 'reason' that forced him to leave the Army when an Annual Confidential Report by his Commanding Officer raised somewhere in the early 60s at the time he was an Adjutant came to light. It mentioned that the Adjutant was an asset when implementing the state language policy and did a tremendous service to activate the State Language Act.
