On 1st May 1993, HE the President R. Premadasa was assassinated in Colombo while he was taking part in a May Day rally. Consequent to this, troops were needed in Colombo to provide security in the city, thus, 'C' and 'D' Companies of the Battalion were summoned for internal security duties in Colombo. On completion of the duties relating to the funeral of the late President the troops they reported back to Ambepussa.

Later in May 1993, during period when provincial council elections were held, the Battalion was deployed in the Matara District and was based at 3rd (V) Battalion Gemunu Watch Camp at Matara. However, the Battalion returned to Ambepussa on 20th May.

Troops of all Companies of the Battalion stationed in Ambepussa were moved to Thiruketiswaran in Mannar on 19th June 1993. The Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel SG Karunaratna was presented a Guard of Honour on 27th May on his arrival at the Thiruketiswaran Camp.

At the time, the 'C' Company was detached out in Oddusudan.

On 8th June a minor operation was launched on identified LTTE locations outside the camp where enemy activity had previously been observed. This resulted in the killing of several terrorist cadres and the capture of military equipment. Following this, activities of the LTTE in the Silavathurai area was curbed by the deployment of 'A' & 'C' Companies of the Battalion.

On 22nd October, the Battalion was deployed in the Ampara area. The Battalion Headquarters and the Support Company were located at Thithkotai. The 'A' Company was located at Santhimalei, the Admin Company and the 'B' Company at Badulla Junction, the 'C' Company at Welilaweli and the 'D' Company at Nugelanda.

All the Companies deployed in Ampara were moved to Elephant Pass on 4th January 1994. At about the same time 102 recruits reported to the Battalion Headquarters from Vavuniya.

On 16th April 1994 the camps at Periya Porathiv, Palugamam and Ampalanthurei were handed over to the Special Task Force (STF) of the Police and by 18th April 1994 the Battalion was stationed at Aiyaththimalai, Unnachehi, Karadiyaporu and Vavunathivu in the Eastern Province.

On 27th April 1994, Lieutenant Colonel SG Karunarathna RWP psc relinquished duties as the Commanding Officer followed by Major DCP Rupasinghe RSP taking over on 28th April 1994.

On 10th May 1995 in appreciation of individual bravery and skills displayed during past operations 4 officers and 12 other ranks of the Battalion were awarded the Rana Sura Padakkama (RSP) medal by HE the President, DB Wijetunga.

On 23rd October 1994 the Admin Company, Support Company, 'D' and 'E' Companies returned to once again to Malwatte in Ampara.

Commencing 31st October 1994 small scale operations were launched in the areas of Aiththimalie, Unaichchi, Pavanthuchchena, Karadiyapowil, Karaweddi as a result of which many terrorists were taken into custody along with large quantities of munitions.

On 5th January 1995 the Government and the LTTE agreed to and signed a document titled 'Declaration of Cessation of Hostilities'. The conditions stipulated in the document came into effect on 8th January 1994.
