A ceremony was held on 16 February 2024 at the Regimental Center to honor Brigadier DMK Chakrawarthi RSP Senior Officer of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment who retired after completing over 32 years of Army service.

The Sri Lanka Light Infantry Seva Vanitha Branch organized a donation programme for children at Maha Bodhi Children’s Development Center, Naduhena, Meegoda on 10 February 2024. This program was carried out under the guidance of Chairperson, SLLI-SVB, Mrs. Vajira Perera with the aim of providing essential school accessories and sanitary items for deserving students.

The Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) Regimental HQ bid farewell to Outgoing Colonel of the Regiment Major General S.R.K Hettiarachchi RWP RSP VSV USP ndu psc during a special ceremony on 14 January. The sequence of events commenced with the ceremonial Guard Turnout, followed by a ceremonial Parade and a floral tribute to the SLLI War Heroes monument. Subsequently, outgoing Senior Officer addressed the Officers and Other Ranks of SLLI.

Wijesundara Mudyanselage Ranjith Wijesundara was born on March 15, 1957, into a respectable family in Colombo. The young Wijesundara, who left school, joined the Sri Lanka Army under Course No. 10 as an apprentice cadet officer on July 3, 1978, with the aim of serving the native land. On 23 January 1980, he joined the Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment as a Second Lieutenant after successfully completing his basic military training at Diyathalawa Military Academy. He was promoted to the rank of lieutenant on July 23, 1981, to the rank of captain on July 23, 1984, to the rank of major on July 23, 1987, and on December 16, 1993, he became the first pilot in command of the 10th SLLI Battalion. This fortunate senior officer was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel on 01 January 1994 and later to the rank of Colonel on 06 June 1997 due to his outstanding leadership on duty.

In line with the 74th anniversary of the Army, with the aim of developing the reading habit of soldiers serving in the Army, developing Army knowledge and thereby producing knowledgeable Army soldiers, the Infantry Regiment won first place in the competition to select the best soldier with the best military knowledge in 2023. Center Commandant Brigadier MPSP Kulasekara WWV RWP RSP Senior Officer who rendered great service for the betterment of the regiment by providing good leadership to the Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regimental Center and the battalions controlled under it, retired from his post on 06th December 2023.
