The Gajaba Regiment hosted a dignified felicitation ceremony on 03 November 2025 at the "Home of Gajaba" , to honour and celebrate the remarkable achievement of Infantryman Piyathissa R W V of the 2 (V) Battalion the Gajaba Regiment, who set a Serandib World Record in tribute to the 76th Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Army.
The event was graced by the Colonel of the Regiment, Major General U K D D P Udugama RWP RSP USP ndc psc, who warmly welcomed Infantryman Piyathissa and his family to the Regimental Centre. The ceremony commenced with a special video presentation that portrayed the inspiring story of the Gajaba Patriotic Warrior, highlighting his extraordinary endurance and determination in overcoming challenges as a visually impaired veteran.
Addressing the gathering, the Colonel of the Regiment praised Infantryman Piyathissa’s unwavering spirit, courage and perseverance, describing his record-setting feat as a testament to the resilience and strength that define the proud warriors of the Gajaba Regiment.
As a mark of appreciation, valuable gifts and a commemorative memento were presented to Infantryman Piyathissa by the Colonel of the Regiment, recognising his exceptional personal achievement and the honour it has brought to the Regiment. In appreciation of their continued support, his family too received tokens of gratitude from the Regiment.
The ceremony concluded with a tea party, symbolizing the spirit of camaraderie and brotherhood that unites the Gajaba family. The event not only celebrated an extraordinary individual achievement but also reaffirmed the Regiment’s enduring values of courage, determination and loyalty to the nation.
