14th COLONEL OF THE REGIMENT OF GAJABA REGIMENT ASSUMES OFFICE

Commander of the Army and Colonel of the Regiment of the Gajaba Regiment Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu handed over the reins of his office as the Colonel of the Regiment symbolically to his successor, Major General M G W W W M C B Wickramasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc by presenting him with the replica of the Baton to signify the relinquishment of office as the Colonel of the Regiment of the Gajaba Regiment.

Accordongly, on Thursday(26) Major General M G W W W M C B Wickramasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc assumed office as the 14th Colonel of the Regiment of the Gajaba Regiment in a simple and formal ceremony held at the Gajaba Regimental Centre Saliyapura Anuradhapura at an auspicious time.

With the arrival of Colonel of the Regiment to the Regimental Centre, he was honoured with a Guard Turnout and that was followed by floral tribute at the statue of Founding Father of the Gajaba Regiment late Major General W I V K M Wimalarathne RWP RSP VSV USP psc. Thereafter, Colonel of the Regiment symbolized the acceptance of his responsibilities by signing an official document amidst chanting of Pirith and later as part of the tradition he planted a sapling at the camp premises signifying this memorable day and subsequently, all officers posed for a group photograph with Colonel of the Regiment.

The day’s event concluded with an All-Ranks tea followed by officers’ address by Colonel of the Regiment. Overall It was a simple and dignified ceremony held as part of rich traditions and customs of this prestigious regiment.
