Commemoration of the Founding Father of the Gajaba Regiment

Under the guidance of Commander of the Army, Colonel of the Regiment of Gajaba Regiment and Sri Lanka National Guard, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, a floral tribute ceremony was held at the statue of late Major General Vijaya Wimalaratne RWP RSP VSV USP psc on Thursday, 08 August 2024 to commemorate the 32nd death anniversary of the fallen war hero and the founding father of the Gajaba Regiment.

The event was attended by Major General Janaka Pallekumbura RWP RSP ndu psc, General Officer Commanding 12 Infantry Division, Brigadier Aruna Wijekoon USP ndc, Centre Commandant RHQ GR along with some serving and retired senior officers, a few Other Ranks ,the beloved son of the legendary warrior, Colonel Hiran Wimalarathne USP, and a few close relatives also attended the commemorative event, paying their respects to the iconic founder of this esteemed regiment.

The event was organized by the 7 Battalion the Gajaba Regiment under the close supervision of its Commanding Officer Major Janaka Herath.
