MAJOR GENERAL NIYSHSHANKA RANAWANA WAS HONOURED IN FAREWELL SALUTE AT THE HOME OF GAJABA

The Gajaba Regiment yesterday (21), bade a farewell to one of its proud sons, retiring Major General Niyshshanka Ranawana RWP RSP ndc psc, who has rendered an exemplary service to the country, during a formal military ceremony at the Regimental Centre, Home of Gajaba, Saliyapura.

The retiring Major General was warmly welcomed by the Deputy Centre Commandant Colonel Mahinda Rajapaksha RWP RSP USP, on behalf of the Colonel of the Regiment, Centre Commandant, all officers and Other Ranks of the Gajaba Regiment upon his arrival at the main gate side of the Regimental Centre, and greeted him by a 'Guard Turnout". Then he paid his final official tribute to the 'Founder Father' of the Gajaba Regiment, late Major General Vijaya Wimalaratne by placing a floral wreath at his statue.

Thereafter, he was invited to accept salute at a colourful military parade by the Parade Commander at the parade ground in conformity with military traditions.

He was also attended the 'All Ranks tea' at the Mens' Club with all officers and Other Ranks. The climax of the day's programme was culminated with an elegant 'Farewell Diner' at the Officers' Mess hosted by the Colonel of the Regiment and all officers of the Gajaba Regiment.
