Possession of the new record of Gajaba history and Sri Lanka Army, the war hero Corporal Gemunu Karunarathna has completed his adventurous wheelchair journey (distance of 580km) and reach to Point Pedro on 11 December 2018 at 1700 hrs by showing the determination and courage of differently abled soldiers of the Gajaba Regiment. The journey took 8 days to complete and assistance was given by the various military establishments on the way
In appreciation of his remarkable perseverance of bravely action, The Adjutant General of the Sri Lanka Army and the Colonel of the Regiment of the Gajaba Regiment Major General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc and the Centre Commandant Brigadier Harendra Peiris RWP RSP USP warmly welcomed him and given grand reception at the Home of Gajaba on 12 December 2018 with the participation of many other Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks of the Gajaba Regiment
To witness the event and to offer a gift for the Corporal Gemunu Karunarathna and facilitate, officials from Kapruka (pvt) Ltd also represented as per the request made by Major General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc
Meanwhile 100 differently abled soldiers were brought to Saliyapura in this felicitation ceremony and they also had special 100 gift packs from Kapruka (pvt) Ltd. Also they planned to send hampers to their family on 25th Dec 2018 in coincide with Christmas festival
Apart from that the Adjutant General and the Colonel of the Regiment of the Gajaba Regiment Major General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc also presented a gift and 100000 worth of cash cheque to corporal Gemunu karunarathna as appreciation of his remarkable bravely expedition of long journey, first ever done in Sri Lankan history
