MAJOR GENERAL CHAGIE GALLAGE WAS HONOURED IN FAREWELL PARADE AND A DINNER

The Gajaba Regiment on Friday, 07 September 2018 bade farewell to Major General C P Gallage WWV RWP RSP VSV USP USAWC, one of its proud sons, an inspiring leader, officer and a gentleman; who possessed almost all the leadership attributes and who had rendered an exemplary service to the nation over 35 years and played a vital role in humanitarian operations as a formation commander, during a formal military ceremony at the Regimental Centre, Home of Gajaba, Saliyapura.

Major General Chagie Gallage was warmly welcomed by the Regimental Centre Commandant Colonel Harindra Peiris RWP RSP USP, on his arrival on behalf of the Colonel of the Regiment, all Officers and Other Rankers and greeted him by a “Guard Turnout”. Thereafter he paid his tribute to the “Father of the Gajaba Regiment” by placing a floral wreath at late Major General Vijaya Wimalarathne’s statute. Then he took salute at a colourful and dignified military parade from proud Keterians. The retired Major General reviewed the parade accompanied by the parade commander Lieutenant Colonel L R W ijerathne USP, together with the Centre Commandant in conformity with military traditions.

Later, Major General Gallage was also attended the all ranks tea party at the Men’s club and day’s programme was concluded with an elegant farewell dinner at the Officers’ Mess. Upon his arrival at the Officers’ Mess, the Colonel of the Regiment and the Adjutant General Major General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc and Mrs. Sujeewa Nelson warmly welcomed him.

Although Major General Gallge was officially retired from service on 30 August 2018, he was honoured with a farewell ceremony with the approval of the Commander of the Army and the Ministry of Defence. Major General Shavendra Silva, during his farewell speech shared his fond memories of his comrade, paid sincere gratitude for the selfless service rendered to the nation. At the end of the event Major General Shavendra Silva presented a special memento to Major General Chagie Gallage in accordance with traditions of the Gajaba Regiment. Distinguished invitees, Gajaba Regimental Council Members, Other Senior Officers, the Centre Commandant, Deputy Commandant, Commanding Officers and others also were presented at the occasion.
