The Gajaba Supercross is a motor sporting event conducted by the Gajaba Regiment of Sri Lanka Army in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Autosports Drivers Association (SLADA) annually. The event was held on 28th August at the Gajaba Supercross Track , Saliyapura, Anuradhapura for the fifteenth consecutive year.
This motor racing event was inaugurated in year 1999 and was a brainchild of late Major General Gamini Gunasekara RSP USP psc and the then president of SLADA Mr. Hans Ralf. Presently, the event has become one of the most popular motor racing events in the Sri Lankan motor sports diary. It was continuously held from year 1999 to 2007, and due to security situation that prevailed in the country the organizing committee decided not to hold the competition in years 2008 and 2009. From year 2010 onwards it has become a major event in the Gajaba Regimental annually events calendar.
The objectives of the Gajaba Supercross is to generate much needed funds to improve the welfare facilities provided to differently abled and able soldiers, as well as to improve the infrastructure facilities of the Gajaba Regimental Centre and the Battalions which are deployed island wide, whilst popularizing motor racing sport in the North Central Province.
Over 200 outstanding racing drivers and riders from all over the island competed and displayed their skills through 24 events at this spectacular Gajaba Supercross. There were special events held for children too. This year the race was conducted with the guidance and supervision of the Deputy Chief of Staff the Sri Lanka Army and Colonel of the Regiment, Major General Sumedha Perera WWV RWP RSP USP ndu.
