Considering the timely security requirement, a group of US-based Sri Lankan expatriates at the invitation of Major General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Staff gifted a stock of 20 metal detectors to the Sri Lanka Army as an incentive to the security tasks of the Army.
The innovator of the project, Major General Shavendra Silva this morning called at the Commander’s office and handed over the same stock to the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake.
The donation of those much-needed sophisticated equipment came about as a result of the long standing goodwill and friendship that exists between those expatriates and the Chief of Staff who served as the Ambassador and the Deputy Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations in New York during 2010-2015.
The stock of those equipment had been sent to the Chief of Staff for distribution among Army personnel conducting security measures across the country.
