RETIRING MAJOR GENERAL A K S PERERA WWV RWP RSP USP ndu ACCORDED MILITARY SALUTE

The Gajaba Regiment held a colourful farewell parade on 29 September 2016 for one of most proud sons, Major General A K S PERERA WWV RWP RSP USP ndu. The former Deputy Chief of Staff of Sri Lanka Army and Colonel of the Regiment of the Gajaba Regiment took salute for the last time at the Home of Keterians after a distinguished career spanning 35 years. He was first posted to the Rajarata Rifles Regiment in the year 1981 and subsequently posted to the Gajaba Regiment in 1983 as one of the pioneers of the Gajaba Regiment. Major General A K S PERERA WWV RWP RSP USP ndu was a proud product of Maliyadeva Collage Kurunegala, His exemplary leadership was instrumental in eradicating terrorism in Sri Lanka, He was a veteran Infantryman, who pioneered the 1st Battalion the Gajaba Regiment from 1994 to 1996. Nevertheless as a commander he has been commanded following appointment in his illustrative military career. He was a Offtg Comd of 533 Bde, Centre Comd of RHQ GR, GOC of 22 Div, Comd SFHQ (W), SFHQ (West) and SFHQ (Central), Colonel of the Regiment of both GR and SF subsequently as a Deputy Chief of Staff of Sri Lanka Army. Further, he was awarded with Weera Wickrama Vibhushanya (WWV), Rana Wickrama Padakkama (RWP) with two claps, Rana Sura Padakkama (RSP) with three claps, Uttama Seva Padakkama (USP) which rewarded for individual acts of gallantry and conspicuous bravery of a high order in the face of the enemy. Moreover Major General A K S PERERA was injured in the battle field in 1984 and honoured with Desha Puthra Medal.
