RETIRING MAJOR GENERAL K J ALWIS RWP RSP USP ndu psc ACCORDED MILITARY SALUTE

The Gajaba Regiment held a colourful farewell parade on 12 November 2016 for one of most proud sons, Major General K J Alwis RWP RSP USP ndu psc. The former Commander ARTTRAC of Sri Lanka Army and Colonel Commandant of the Military Intelligence Corps took salute for the last time at the Home of Keterians after a distinguished career spanning 35 years. He was first posted to the Rajarata Rifles Regiment in the year 1981 and subsequently posted to the Gajaba Regiment in 1983 as one of the pioneers of the Gajaba Regiment. Major General K J Alwis RWP RSP USP ndu psc was a proud product of Ananda Vidyalaya. Colombo 10 , His exemplary leadership was instrumental in eradicating terrorism in Sri Lanka, He was a veteran Infantryman, who pioneered the 4th Battalion the Gajaba Regiment from 1995 to 1997. Nevertheless as a commander he has been commanded following appointment in his illustrative military career. He was a Offtg Comd of 521 Bde, 531Bde, Centre Comd RHQGR, Comd SFHQ (J), Colonel of the Regiment of Special Forces, Colonel Commandant Military Intelligence Corps, subsequently as a Commander ARTRAC(AHQ) of Sri Lanka Army. Further, he was awarded with Rana Wickrama Padakkama (RWP), Rana Sura Padakkama (RSP) ,Uththama Seva Padakkama (USP) which rewarded for individual acts of gallantry and conspicuous bravery of a high order in the face of the enemy. Moreover Major General K J Alwis was injured in the battle field in and honoured with Desha Puthra Medal.
