NEWLY APPOINTED COMMANDER OF THE ARMY ASSUMES OFFICE

Colonel of the Regiment of Proud Gajaba Regiment Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc assumed office as 23rd Commander of the Army on Wednesday (21) during a formal military formality held at Army Headquarters, Colombo.

A Guard Turnout and a Guard of honour was accorded to the newly appointed, Commander of the Army by the troops of Gajaba Regiment in front of large gathering of Senior Officers, Officers and Other ranks.

As a symbolic gesture of taking over the command Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva placed his signature in a formal document symbolizing the assumption of duties as the Commander of the Army in the presence of retired and present Senior Officers, Officers and the Staff, after brief religious observances and lighting the traditional oil lamp.There after Commander of the Army, Senior Officers and Officers were participated for the Tea party organized at the Army Headquarters premises.
