Keterians’ Founding Father Remembered

The 31st death anniversary of the legendry warrior and the Founding Father of the Gajaba Regiment, Major General Vijaya Wimalaratne RWP RSP VSV USP psc was commemorated at the Gajaba Regimental Centre, Saliyapura on Tuesday (8) on the guidance of Commander of the Army, Colonel of the Regiment of Gajaba Regiment and Sri Lanka National Guard, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu and under the close supervision of Centre Commandant Brigadier Wishwajith Vidyananda RWP RSP USP.

As the first segment of the commemorative event,

a gathering of Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks of the regiment on Monday (7) evening made flower offerings with ‘Gilanpasa’ to the sacred upper layer at Ruwanweli Maha Seya premises at Anuradhapura and Puja was conducted by the Maha Sanga and transferred merit to the great fallen War Hero.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday (8) Morning a separate commemorative event was held at the statue of late Major General Vijaya Wimalaratne in Kiribathgoda with the particiaption of gathering of Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks and close relatives of this great leader.

Moreover, Today evening (8) the main commemorative event got underway in front of the statute of late Major General Vijaya Wimalaratne at the Gajaba Regimental Centre in Saliyapura with floral tributes to the Statue.

This Commemorative event was attended by General Officer Commanding 21 Infantry Division, Major General Buddika Perera RWP USP ndu psc as the Chief Guest representing Colonel of the Regiment. The Centre Commandant, Deputy Centre Commandant, Staff Officers of the Regimental Centre, Commanding Officer 22 GR, and a gathering of Officers and Other Ranks were present at the event.
