‘Kapruk Pooja and Katina Cheevara Pooja’ which are the most meritorious acts in the Buddhist culture took place at Abhayagiri Stupa on 02 and 03 November 2019, under the supervision of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc ,President of the Army Seva Vanitha unit Mrs Sujeewa Nelson and the Centre Commandant Colonel Mahinda Rajapaksha RWP RSP USP.
On 02 November, the Commander of the Army participated for “Kapruka Pooja ceremony” and “Atavisi Buddha Pooja” where the colourful procession was inaugurated from the Home of Gajaba. Council members, Centre Commandant, Many Senior Officers and other rankers gave their fullest co-operation on behalf of this cultural programme. In addition to that, the event was enhanced with a “Gilanpasa Poojawa” which was followed by a Dhamma Sermon.
On 03 November, there was a colourful perahera programme which started from Thuparama premises comprising drummers and dancers with the sacred “Katina Cheevaraya”. With in next hours, there was an alms giving programme for 50 Buddhist monks. This programme was enlightened with the participation of the Chief Incumbents of sacred city of Anuradhapura and the Ven Waturakumbure Dhammaratana Thero, the Chief Incumbents of Nelligala International Buddhist Center.
