ith the beginning of the LTTE terrorism, which prevailed for 3 decades, there was a great necessity of a new Regiment for Sri Lanka Army to protect the country and to face the danger of dividing in to two. On the 15th January 1980 the first Rajarata Rifles Battalion was constituted considering the situation of the country on an order issued by the Army Headquarters.
