HE the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa made a historical visit to the Gajaba Regimental Centre on Sunday as the Chief Guest of the 72 Army Anniversary Commemoration Ceremony held at the Home of Gajaba, Saliyapura. The visit indeed was a historic occasion for all the Keterians as it was the first ever visit he made after he was elected as the Head of the State. HE the President witnessed the development projects conceptualized by the General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army and Colonel of the Regiment of Gajaba Regiment.
HE the President unveiled a plaque to inaugurate the new Headquarters Office Complex and later HE the President cut the ribbon to mark the instrumental declaration of Warrant Officers and Sergeants’ Mess, At the culmination of the event HE the President declared open the Gotabaya Rajapaksa Cricket Stadium.
Mrs. Ioma Rajapaksa, First Lady, General Kamal Gunaratne (Rtd) Secretary, Ministry of Defence and Secretary, State Ministry of National Security and Disaster Management, Mrs. Chithrani Gunaratne, Chairperson, MOD Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Sujeewa Nelson, President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit, former GR veterans and Senior Retired Officers, Major General Priyantha Perera, Chief of Staff, Major General Sampath Kotuwegoda, Deputy Chief of Staff, Major General Vikum Liyanage, Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF), Security Force Commanders, Principal Staff Officers at Army Headquarters, General Officers Commanding, Directors of the Army Headquarters, Senior Officers, senior members of Army Seva Vanitha Unit, Officers and Other Ranks and several invitees attended the day’s proceedings adhering to Health guidelines.
