This year’s Sri Lanka’s No 01 Motor Sports event, “Gajaba Supercross 2017†that brought thousands of fans to the Home of Gajaba Supercross Track, Saliyapura, Anuradhapura took place on Sunday (27) with several distinguished guests in attendance. The event was inspected and launched by Col LHM Rajapaksha RWP RSP USP Over Looking Centre Commandant, the Gajaba Regiment.
The Adjutant General of Sri Lanka Army and Colonel of the Regiment, the Gajaba Regiment, Major General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc, was the Chief Guest of the Gajaba Supercross 2017.
Lieutenant General NAJC Dias ( Retd ) WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc, Major General GVDUA Perera ( Retd ) RWP RSP VSV USP USAWC psc, Senior Officers were among distinguished guests who witnessed the mammoth event.
According to the Gajaba Regiments’ event calendar the annual event with its unique car track of 1.2 km and bike track of 1.6 km, organized in cooperation with the SLADA took place on 27th August 2017 and the local competitors more than 194 who competed in 12 motor cars and 13 motor bikes competitions in Gajaba Supercross Track, Saliyapura, Anuradhapura.
Presentation of Trophies and other merit awards was made by Maj Gen Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc, the Adjutant General of Sri Lanka Army and Colonel of the Regiment of the Gajaba Regiment who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
The objectives of the “Gajaba Supercross†are, generate much needed funds to utilize to build houses for the needy families, offer scholarships and also school needs for the children of the Regiment’s soldiers. Apart of that improve the welfare facilities of the differently-abled and able soldiers, as well as to improve the infrastructure facilities of the Regiment whilst popularizing the motor racing sport in the North Central Province.
27th (Sunday) August 2017 Gajaba Supercross was the 16th installation since its inception in 1999, the Gajaba Supercross has earned the reputation of being the most thrilling racing event in Sri Lanka. The “Home of Gajaba†owes its sincere gratitude to the sponsors, drivers, riders and sports fans and the media.
