The Gajaba Regiment Inter-Battalion Badminton Competition-2023 organized by Sport Section of the Gajaba Regiment was held at the Regimental Centre Gymnasium on 20, 21 & 22 May 2023 under the guidance of Commander of the Army and Colonel of the Regiment Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu and with the close supervision of Centre Commandant Brigadier Wishwajith Vidyananda RWP RSP USP.
The preliminary rounds of the tournament were conducted on 20 and 21 May 2023 under the categories of, Under 30 Singles, Over 30 Singles, Under 30 doubles and Over 30 doubles. The Finals of the Tournament got underway on 22 May 2023 at the Regimental Centre Gymnasium and the event was graced by Brigadier Wishwajith Vidyananda RWP RSP USP, the Centre Commandant as the Chief Guest.
In the thrilling finals of Under 30 Singles Lt G N Nawanjana of 12th Battalion the Gajaba Regiment, overcame well played of S/484678 L/Cpl Eshan DML of 12th Battalion the Gajaba Regiment to become the Champion of Under 30 Singles while securing the award of best player of the tournament.
In the finals of Over 30 Singles S/481656 Cpl Senanayake AGK of 22nd Battalion the Gajaba Regiment, overcame the aggressive attack of Maj Athula Chandrasekara RSP of 22nd Battalion the Gajaba Regiment to become the Champion of Over 30 Singles while securing the award of best player of the tournament.
Under 30 Doubles champions were the duo of 12th Battalion the Gajaba Regiment, Lt G N Nawanjana and S/484678 L/Cpl Eshan DML who swiftly played against duo of 22nd Battalion the Gajaba Regiment, S/483156 L/Cpl Edirisinghe KGAK and S/485675 L/Cpl Nishantha GS.
Over 30 Doubles champions were the duo of 22nd Battalion the Gajaba Regiment, Maj Athula Chandrasekara RSP and S/481656 Cpl Senanayake AGK, who swiftly played against duo of 6th Battalion the Gajaba Regiment, S/471195 Sgt Rathnayake PGN and S/465354 Cpl Meenakunbura AMR.
The Centre Commandant Brigadier Wishwajith Vidyananda RWP RSP USP, Senior Officers, Commanding Officer 22 GR, all Staff Officers and a gathering of Other Ranks of the Regimental Centre participated in the event.
