The Gajaba Regiment held its 2nd Colours Awarding Ceremony to appreciate the achievements of the Gajaba sportsmen in the various fields of sports on 20 March 2018 at Bishop’s College Auditorium, Colombo. The Commander of the Army, Lt Gen Mahesh Senanayake graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and accompanied by President of the Sri Lanka Army Seve Vanitha Branch, Mrs Chandrika Senanayake. Further, former Test Cricket Captain, veteran Cricketer and Coach Mr Mahela Jayawardena also graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour with the invitation of the Col of the Regiment, Maj Gen Shavendra Silva. There were 101 colour recipients awarded with Gajaba Colours during the event.
Former Colonel of the Regiments, Military Secretory, Maj Gen Priyantha Jayasundara, Council Members, Director General Sports, Maj Gen Anura Sudasinghe, D PA, Brig Devinda Perera, D Media, Brig Sumith Athapattu, Senior Officers of the Gajaba Regiment, Commanding Officers,Officers, Regimental Sergeant Majors’ and Family members of the colour recipients also participated to the grand ceremony.
Several eye catching musical and historical cultural events also intermittently held the spectators spell bound as the programme unfolded one after the other. Former Colonel of the Regiment, Lt Gen Jagath Dias (Rtd), Colonel of the Regiment, Maj Gen Shavendra Silva and Former Test Cricket Captain, Mr Mahela Jayawardena entered to the stage to give away the awards to colours recipients.
The Commander of the Army, Lt Gen Mahesh Senanayake entered to the stage to mark the final segment of the event of present “Silver Keteri” Awards to best achievements displayed by the Keterians in the field of sports in National and International level.
