A Felicitation ceremony was held at the Gajaba Regiment Headquarters to salute to the newly appointed chief of staff of the Sri Lanka Army Maj Gen Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc. The ceremony follows the military traditions, customs and ethics which gave the pride to the Gajaba Regiment.
This is the first formal visit of the Chief of Staff to his Home of Gajaba and it followed a Guard Turnout plus a Guard of Honour.
The Chief of Staff ushered to lay a floral wreath to pay his deep respect at the statute of the founder father of the Gajaba Regiment Late Maj Gen Vijaya Wimalarathna.
At the request of the parade commander Capt Devinda Tissage, The days Chief Guest receive the Guard of Honour as melodies of patriotic songs began echoing. Afterwards, formally received the salute in conformity with military traditions.
Maj Gen Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc joined with All Ranks for refreshments at ORs’ Mess and sat for a group photo at the Parade Square with all officers who attended for the event.
Later, Maj Gen Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc was invited to plant a tree sapling at the Gajaba Regimental Headquarters leaving an indelible gesture.
Minutes after the stage was set for the customary troops address. Both Officers and Other Ranks who are serving in the Gajaba Regiment were gathered to this most important event.
Towards the end of the day’s ceremony, the new Chief of Staff attended for lunch at the Offrs’ Mess with all Officers.
Council Members, the Centre Commandant, Deputy Centre Commandant of the Gajaba Regiment, Senior officers and Other Rankers of the Gajaba Regiment attended the occasion.
