On the directions of the Commander of the Army, the commemoration of fallen war heroes’ ceremony was held with honoring a monument parade and segment of the chain of memorial events at the Regimental Centre – the Gajaba Regiment, Home of Gajaba, Saliyapura at 0930 hrs on 18 May 2018 to commemorate fallen Gajaba War Heroes who laid their lives on behalf of the motherland.
The Colonel of the Regiment of the Gajaba Regiment and the Adjutant General of the Sri Lanka Army Maj Gen Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP USP ndcpsc gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest today; paid floral tribute to the statue of the late Maj Gen Vijaya Wimalarathne, who founded and nurtured the Gajaba Regiment and regarded as the “Father of the Gajaba Regiment”.Then he laid floral wreath at the ‘Gajaba Monument’ together with the Regimental Council Members, the Regimental Officiating Centre Commandant, Deputy Centre Commandant, Commanding Officers, Regimental Staff Officers and other rankers and saluted all Gajaba War Heroes of our times.
The event was consisting with flag-raising, recital of the National Anthem and the Army Song/Gajaba Song, two minutes silence, reading of the Army Commander’s War Heroes’ Day message by the Centre Commandant Col Harendra Peiris RWP RSP USP, followed by the address to the troops by the Colonel of the Regiment. The Colonel of the Regiment paid his special gratitude to the all Senior Officers who commanded the Infantry Divisions, Brigades, Task Forces and units with valor commitment to bring about peace tothe motherland at the Wanni Humanitarian Operations and soldiers as well who took part in this. He wished to attain supreme nibbana for those who made supreme sacrifice to the motherland and further he wished speedy recovery for those who wounded in action with the blessing of ‘Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi’.
