COMMEMORATION OF 29TH DEATH ANNIVERSARY OF FOUNDER FATHER OF GAJABA REGIMENT, LATE MAJOR GENERAL VIJAYA WIMALARATNE AND FELLOW MILITARY VETERANT COLONEL Y M PALIPANA

As per the guidelines given by Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army, Colonel of the Regiment of Gajaba Regiment and Special Forces Regiment, General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil. The Gajaba Regiment organized series of events in connection with the 29th death anniversary of fallen war heroes late Major General Vijaya Wimalaratne RWP RSP VSV USP psc and the fellow military leader Y M Palipana who laid down their precious lives at Araly Point in Jaffna. Accordingly, following the Kiripidu Puja held at the sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhiya at early hours on 08 August 2021, Major General Mohan Rathnayake RWP RSP USP ndu Commander 21 Infantry Division and Centre Commandant Brigadier Dinesh Udugama RWP RSP USP psc accompanied with a few Staff Officers of the Regimental Centre along with the Regimental Sargent Major laid Floral Wreaths at the Regimental Monument.

This event was followed by a special Alms Giving programme organized by the Gajaba Regimental Centre to coincide with the commemorative ceremony, where the Gajaba Regimental Centre organized offer of Alms to the members of Maha Sanga at Ikirigollewa Rajamaha Viharaya and Mankadawala Rajamaha Viharaya on 08 August 2021 and transferred merits to the fallen war heroes of Founder Father of Gajaba Regiment and the fellow military veteran who laid down their precious lives at the fight of protecting the motherland from the clutches of brutal terrorism. This religious event was attended by the Centre Commandant Brigadier Dinesh Udugama RWP RSP USP psc and some Staff Officers along with a few other staff of the Regimental Centre. Further, this event was conducted strict adhering to the Covid 19 protective health guidelines issued by the health authorities and the respective Headquarters.
