Col Of The Regt Gajaba Regiment Attends 5th Xiangshan Forum At Beijing
Colonel of the Gajaba Regiment and Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force Major General Lalith Daulagala attended the Fifth Xiangshan Forum held from November 20 to November 22 in Beijing China. Sri Lanka Military Leaders have been invited by Air Force General Liu Chengjun, Chairman China Association for Military Science (CAMS) to take part in this forum which is held biennially.\r\n\r\nMajor General Lalith Daulagala attended this dignified forum as the representative of Honorable Secretary to the Ministry to Defence and Urban Development Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa consequent to the invitation of PeopleÃ��Ã�¢Ã�¯Ã�¿Ã�½Ã�¯Ã�¿Ã�½s Republic of China.\r\n\r\n The Fifth Xiangshan Forum which themed Ã��Ã�¢Ã�¯Ã�¿Ã�½Ã�¯Ã�¿Ã�½Win Win through Cooperation: Building an Asia Community of Shared Destiny Ã��Ã�¢Ã�¯Ã�¿Ã�½Ã�¯Ã�¿Ã�½ was expected to address the issues of Regional Security, Regional Security Architecture, Maritime Security and Counter Terrorism Cooperation.\r\n\r\nThe Keynote Address was delivered by General Chang Wanquan, State Councilor Minister of National Defence China on Chinese Armed Forces and Security in Asia- Pacific Region and the topics under discussion at the Forum were Regional Security Architecture, Current Status and Prospects and Regional Perspectives on Asia - Pacific Security and New Challenges of Terrorism in Asia Managing Maritime Disputes in the Asia Ã��Ã�¢Ã�¯Ã�¿Ã�½Ã�¯Ã�¿Ã�½ Pacific region.\r\n50 Countries, international organizations and other distinguished participants including more than 20 government officials at or above Deputy Defence Minister Levels represented by official delegations participated in the Forum where the presence of Defence Minister of Singapore, Malaysia and Kirikisthan was significantly important. \r\n\r\nDuring the stay in China, Major General Lalith Daulagala who secured his ndu qualification in 2008/2009 was having an opportunity to have a visit to College of Defence of China National Defence University at the invitation of its Commandant Major General Lan Zhitao who gave a warm reception to the visiting Commandant. \r\n\r\nCollege of Defence Studies of China is subordinated to the National Defence University (NDU) of the Chinese Peoples Liberation Army (CPLA) which is the highest institution of military learning in the Peoples Republic of China (PRC). It is mainly tasked to provide education to Senior Commanding Staff and Research Officers as well as senior officials of foreign countries. Besides, in some courses, Chinese Officers of the same rank are recruited to train and exchange views on defence and security issues together with foreign Officers.\r\n\r\nThe CDS always works for exchanges and cooperation in the fields of international military education, and carries out deep-going study of the frontier theories on defence and security. The College pursues the concept of Ã��Ã�¢Ã�¯Ã�¿Ã�½Ã�¯Ã�¿Ã�½seeking cooperation, striving for peace and promoting developmentÃ��Ã�¢Ã�¯Ã�¿Ã�½Ã�¯Ã�¿Ã�½ and makes unswerving efforts to promote friendly relations and pragmatic cooperation between countries and forces.\r\n\r\nMajor General Lalith Daulagala took time to meet the senior Officers of the Sri Lanka Army Brigadier Shantha Disanayaka, Brigadier Ralf Nugera, Brigadier Roshan Senavirathna, Brigadier Laksiri Waduge and Commodore Artigala who follow the ndu course at National Defence University in China. \r\n
