In a commendable display of humanitarian service, the 20th Battalion of the Gajaba Regiment successfully conducted a Blood Donation Programme on 26 May 2025 , under the guidance of the Commander 221 Infantry Brigade, Colonel Ruwan Ehelepola USP USACGSC. The initiative was spearheaded and meticulously supervised by the Commanding Officer of the 20th Battalion of the Gajaba Regiment Lt Col Rohana Ekanayake RWP RSP psc who ensured the smooth coordination of the event.
The battalion collaborated with the Medical Team of Cluster Blood Bank Trincomalee, whose professional support enabled the efficient collection and handling of blood donations. The programme resulted in the collection of a remarkable 90 units of blood, contributing significantly to the national blood reserve and potentially saving many lives.
A total of 90 personnel voluntarily participated to donate blood, showcasing a strong sense of social responsibility and solidarity. Among the donors were 10 soldiers from the 1st Battalion of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, 15 sailors from SLNS Ranweli and civilian staff members of the 20th Battalion of the Gajaba Regiment. This event stands as a testament to the Sri Lanka Army’s continued commitment to community service and its role in supporting national healthcare needs.
