10th Battalion the Gajaba Regiment, one of the most prestigious Battalions of the Gajaba Regiment commemorated its 30th Anniversary on Sunday, 07 January 2024 at its Headquarters in KANDY with series of events, starting with multi-religious flag blessing ceremonies held on 02, 03, 04 and 05 January 2024, at Kataragama Dewalaya, Sri Dalada Maligawa, St Paul's Church, Meera Makkam Jummah Masjid, Jaya Shri Maya Bodhi and served with Thabili Drink for the patients in Kandy Cancer Hospital.
During the 30 years of prolonged fighting against brutal terrorism in the country, 13 Officers and 452 Other Ranks of the Battalion have laid down their precious lives while 92 Officers and 2345 Other Ranks were severely wounded and became permanently disable at the fight to bring back peace and harmony to the Motherland.
On the Anniversary day, 07 Sunday 2024 The Commanding Officer Major Nishantha Weerathunge RSP greeted with a Guard Turnout in accordance with military formalities at the entrance of the battalion Headquarters. Then, he was ushered to accept the salute of the colorful ceremonial parade by the Battalion Adjutant, Lieutenant Rukshan Fonseka and the Commanding Officer reviewed the elegantly dressed parade, composed of 06 Officers and 72 Other Ranks representing all Companies. He took the salute from the dais and that was followed by a group photograph with the all Officers and Other Ranks who were present at the event.
Afterwards, the newly constructed “NCOs’ Club” declared open by the Commanding Officer unveiling the opening plaque and added memories to the day by planting an sandalwood (Sandun) sapling in the compound.
At the culmination of series of events held on account of the 30 Anniversary, an All Ranks Lunch, was held with the participation of Commanding Officer, Second in Command, Company Commanders, Adjutant, Platoon commanders, Regimental Sergeant Major and all Company Sergeant Majors along with a gathering of Other Ranks representing the 10th battalion the Gajaba Regiment
