HISTORY of 26th BATTALION THE GAJABA REGIMENT
The brutal terrorism which intimidated our motherland for 30 years has terminated by the superior Sri Lankan Armored forces. While this enormous and sheer dedication was commencing, there was a requirement of secure the territory which captured by advancing formations. in order to fulfill this this requirement 2 RFT Battalion was formed at KALMADUKULAM in 01/03/2009,this battalion was formed with consist of low medically categorized officers and soldiers.
After the termination of our according to ARO 30/2010 dated 19/09/2010, It was raised as 26 Battalion the Gajaba regiment. which was under commanded for Task force through 632 Brigade at OLUMADU. The opening strength was (17x426). The first commanding officer was Lieutenant Colonel W M S N Eragoda RWP RSP and the first Regimental Sergeant Major was W 1 R P G U Weerasinghe.
The 26 Battalion the Gajaba regiment was tasked to secure the A - 34 road. And to proceed rehabilitation process in the area. It was redeployed at KANAGARAYANKULAM to secure A - 9 road. After this Battalion deploy at PTTALAM in 25/08/2011 in order to maintain peace and normalcy due to the civil violence against police. And it was under commanded to Security Forces Headquarters (West) through 14 Division and 143 Brigade. Up to date it was tasked to provide VIP duties, internal security duties and Disaster Management duties. After this Battalion depoyed at THANDUWAN on 19 AUG 16 And it was under Commanded to Security Forces Headquarters (Mulathiv) Through 64 Division and 642 Brigade. up to date it was tasked to provide Belly clearing operation , IS duties and disastermanegement duties
