Sri Lanka Army Commander-initiated 'Thuru Mithuru-Nawa Ratak' re-forestation and cultivation project which saw its birth at Sri Jayawardenepura last December after re-cultivation of abandoned lands and sapling-planting, received a boost when Asia Asset Finance PLC, appreciative of the Army's concern towards a sustainable Sri Lanka offered its financial assistance to purchase seed vegetables for cultivation inside island-wide Army formations.

Lieutenant General Shavendra, Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army at the invitation of the Asia-Pacific Academic Consortium for Public Health (APACPH) and the Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA) this morning (30) contributed to the public webinar, themed on 'Breaking the Transmission Chain through Community Empowerment', in which a panel of international medical scholars of public health shared their professional expertise and views on 'COVID-19' pandemic, its unpredictable transmission patterns, its global impact, preventive mechanism, enhancement of community awareness, future prognosis, discontinuation of its infection mode, collective measures, etc.

By responding to a request made by the Specialist Dr Anil Jasinghe, Director-General of Health Service to the Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army and Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of Covid-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), troops of the Corps of Engineer Services (CES) improvised and renovated a neglected building in the National Institute of Mental Health premises and vested it in authorities for use of mentally-ill COVID-19 patients on Wednesday (29).

84 more individuals who completed the quarantine process at Tri-force-managed Brandix Punani QC (79) and Welikanda QC (05) more than 21 days were sent back to their homes today (2) after PCR tests. A total of 125 individuals were flown to Sri Lanka last evening (30 April) from Kolkata in India by the Sri Lankan Airlines Flight UL-1188 and they were sent to the Minneriya, Pelwehera and Punanni Quarantine Centres (QC), the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) stated today (1).
