Lieutenant General Shavendra, Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army at the invitation of the Asia-Pacific Academic Consortium for Public Health (APACPH) and the Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA) this morning (30) contributed to the public webinar, themed on 'Breaking the Transmission Chain through Community Empowerment', in which a panel of international medical scholars of public health shared their professional expertise and views on 'COVID-19' pandemic, its unpredictable transmission patterns, its global impact, preventive mechanism, enhancement of community awareness, future prognosis, discontinuation of its infection mode, collective measures, etc.
The videoconferencing shared by Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Head of NOCPCO, Dr Anil Jasinghe, Director General Health Services, Dr Ananda Wijewickrama, Chief Consultant Physician at National Infectious Diseases Hospital representing Sri Lanka as contributors got underway from Wijerama House in Colombo 7.
Professor Collin Binns of School of Public Health, Curtin University Australia, Professor Gordon. G. Liu, Perking University in Beijing, China, Professor Malik Peiris of School of Public Health at Hong Kong University, Professor A.W.G Bulgiba, Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya, Malaysia and Professor Teo Yik Ying, Dean, Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, National University of Singapore were among other webinar contributors to the sessions.
Professor Loa Wah Yun, President APACPH, Deputy Executive Director of Asia Europe Institute, University of Malaya, Malaysia and Professor Indika Karunathilake, Vice President APACPH & President of SLMA served as webinar moderators, presenting their introductory preamble to the sessions.
Extensive discussions focused on COVID-19 and its subsequent impact on the countries, socio-economic cultures, variations of the patterns, treatment measures, tests, children and kids, region-level developments, possible approaches, lessons learnt, in which important experiences from Australia, China, Malaysia, Hong Kong & Singapore were also reviewed and evaluated.
