Sri Lanka Army Commander-initiated 'Thuru Mithuru-Nawa Ratak' re-forestation and cultivation project which saw its birth at Sri Jayawardenepura last December after re-cultivation of abandoned lands and sapling-planting, received a boost when Asia Asset Finance PLC, appreciative of the Army's concern towards a sustainable Sri Lanka offered its financial assistance to purchase seed vegetables for cultivation inside island-wide Army formations.
The gesture of assistance was offered by this licensed banking institute as a result of a previous discussion that got underway with Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army at the Army Headquarters, attended by the Chief of Staff Major General Sathyapriya Liyanage and representatives of this private banking institute. Those company representatives expressing their happiness over the Army's initiative for a change towards sustainability efforts in the country wanted to lend their helping hand for a worthy cause which would serve a fillip to all.
Accordingly, by being the first corporate entity to encourage the project, the cream of the Asia Asset Finance PLC management recently met Major General Sathyapriya Liyanage, Chief of Staff at his office in the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps Regimental HQ in Muttwal and made a cash donation of Rs 1 lakh towards purchase of seed vegetables and grains that can be grown inside Army camps across the country.
Mr Roshan De S Gunasekara, Chief Operating Officer, Asia Asset Finance PLC, a few representatives of the company and Staff Officer I of the Directorate of Agriculture, Lieutenant Colonel Nishantha Muththanthrige were present during the meeting. The cash cheque was subsequently handed over to the Directorate of Agriculture and Livestock by the Chief of Staff for onward arrangements.
