Infected Navy Toll Rises & 3609 are Still in Quarantine- Head, NOCPCO

The routine Media briefing was held at the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) at Rajagiriya took place this afternoon (29), headed by Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Head of the (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, Medical Specialist Dr Anil Jasinghe, Director General of Health Services and Mr Ajith Rohana, Deputy Inspector General of Police.

A total of 144 individuals were flown to Sri Lanka this evening (29) from New Delhi in India by the Sri Lankan Airlines Flight UL-1196 and are now being taken to the tri service-managed Quarantine Centre (QCs) for quarantine process, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said. Today (29), a batch of 62 quarantined individuals, inclusive of 49 from the Army-managed Katukeliyawa Quarantine Centre (QC), 5 from Diyatalawa QC and 8 from Boossa QC after conduct of PCR tests left for their residences with Quarantine Certificates.

With this, a total of 4659 quarantined individuals have left those QCs, manned by tri services as of today (29). Likewise, 69 persons, subsequent to the detection of COVID-19 infected individuals from Narahenpita area yesterday (28) have been referred to Damminna QC for quarantine process. Besides, a total of 184 persons, comprised of all family members of heroic infected Navy personnel and people who have had contacts with them were directed to the Pompeimadu QC for quarantining. Accordingly, 3609 individuals in 32 tri service-managed QCs are still in quarantine, remarked Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva.

By this evening (29), the number of heroic COVID-19 infected sailors in the Welisara Navy camp has risen to 226, including those 147 infected inside it and those 79 got infected while being outside the camp, he announced.
